I regret to have to report that a Shroff, Ng Fung Fu, engaged at Tai Po absconded in the month of April last having embezzled a sum which was ascertained on enquiry to amount to $1,082.15 in accordance with the details given in the first enclosure to this Despatch, and to request Your Lordship's authority for formally writing off the amounts under the respective heads of Revenue.
2. As the total amount has been recovered from the defaulter's security there will be no loss to Government on his account.
3. The circumstances connected with the case are that the Treasurer reported on the 16th. April that the balance of collections in the hands of the Collector at Tai Po exceeded the amount permitted by Financial Instruction No. 58 and that on enquiry being made...
